Scheduling an Event at

The Well~Read Moose

Thank you for your interest in holding an event at The Well~Read Moose. The following policies and guidelines will hopefully help you understand a bit more about our scheduling process.

Before requesting an event, please familiarize yourself with our store and current events schedule on our website. Looking at other upcoming events will give you a good idea as to the kinds of events that we choose to host.

Our book related events are typically speaking and reading events with a time for questions and book signing. Do to our limited space, we are unable to schedule sit-and-sign book events. Events that do not involve a book, such as a workshop or lecture, are considered on a case-by-case basis and only if they apply to our customer’s interests and match the goals and philosophies of our store.

Book availability is a very important factor. Your book must be available through Ingram or a publisher with whom we already have a working relationship. We do not create new publisher accounts for events, nor can we afford to pay freight to have the books shipped to the store. In addition, books must be returnable and have a standard minimum 40% discount.

If your book does not meet these criteria, you will need to go through the consignment process. Books taken on consignment must be on our shelves for at least a month before we will discuss an event.

Our events coordinator has many important tasks at the store, so please email rather than dropping by the store unexpectedly. Also, please refrain from calling the store expecting to chat with our coordinator.

Because Coeur d’ Alene is a small community, we ask that you do not schedule another event in the immediate area in the month preceding or following an event at our store.

Once an event is scheduled, please email a picture of yourself (JPEG),

a book jacket photo (JPEG) and a short bio to Marlene.

We often have multiple authors share an event when we feel the subject matter or genres are similar and that our customers would enjoy hearing multiple perspectives & storytelling styles.

We will discuss that with you prior to finalizing an event day & time.

The Well~Read Moose does a variety of marketing for all events, but it is our expectation that authors will do their own promotion as well. We expect authors post the event on their website and other social media accounts.

We highly encourage personal invitations to friends and family.

While your friends and family may have already purchased your book from us, we host events in our café and hope that our guests will purchase beverages and/or food during the event.

Thank you for your interest and we look forward to working with you!
