Consignment Policy

Thank you for your interest in having your book represented at the Well~Read Moose through our consignment program! Our mission is to support our local authors and artists and engage the local creative community. Please carefully review the guidelines listed below before submitting your application.

CONSIGNMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • You must be a local author, meaning you reside no further than Spokane, Shoshone, Boundary, and Nez Perce counties.

  • Your book must have been published within the last 12 months.

  • Books that are of local interest (e.g., Coeur d’Alene history, regional field guides, novels set in the Inland NW) will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  • Your book must be professionally bound. Spiral bound books will not be accepted. Book title and author name must be legible on the spine. Your book must have an ISBN number and barcode. Cover art should not be visibly pixilated.

  • Our pricing terms follow the book industry standard of 60/40, where 60% of the retail price (set by the author) is payable to the author, and 40% is kept by the Well~Read Moose.

  • We pay quarterly for book sales, by the end of the month following the regular Accounting Quarter (e.g., January/February/March is 1st Quarter). Payments for sales are usually mailed by the end of April, July, October, and January.

  • Author royalties are paid through PayPal direct deposit or by check. The Well~Read Moose will cover any processing fees. All we need is the email linked to your PayPal account. It's easy!

  • We will initially stock no more than three copies of an individual title. If we sell out of your book and need more copies, we will contact you via email. If you are scheduled for an author presentation/book signing, you will be asked to bring books with you. Any stolen or damaged merchandise is the responsibility of the consignor.

  • If your book is not available through our Ingram warehouse, your book will not be available for purchase on our website. Our online catalog is linked to our Ingram warehouse, so anything not in Ingram will not be visible.

  • Consignment is very labor-intensive! Everything (setting up records, tracking sales, and managing the inventory) must be done individually and by hand. We collect a non-refundable service fee of $20 for each different title (not for each copy of your book). Books with a value less than $10 will be eligible for a reduced fee. This $20 fee includes a feature on our Local Author wall for 30 days.

  • As part of the consignment agreement, authors agree to link The Well~Read Moose on their website, blog, social media, and other online platforms. This benefits both author and bookstore!

We love to support our local authors! We'll provide local author bookmarks, a spot on our Local Author wall, a feature on our Facebook page (with a picture of you and your book), and the opportunity to schedule an event with us. See Event Terms & Conditions for more information.

Marketing is the responsibility of the consignor. Letting friends and family know that they can purchase your book at The Well Read Moose is a big part of creating a successful consignment.

Authors are responsible to inform us regarding any updated contact information.

All correspondence regarding our consignment program must be done through email (or otherwise agreed upon). We will not accept unsolicited copies of your book.

ENDING CONSIGNMENT:

If no copies of your book sell within a six month period, we will send you an email telling you that we can no longer carry your book on our shelves and must end our consignment agreement. You will have 30 days to pick up all remaining copies of your book. If you do not pick up your books before the 30 days is up, your books will be donated to the local library.

Thank you for your interest! We look forward to doing business with you.
